Frequently Asked Questions

Can I just advertise for one edition?

Yes you can, but we don’t recommend it, unless you are looking to advertise a one-off event. Why? Because advertising doesn’t usually work instantly. With our 20+ years experience, our long-term advertisers tell us they get the best results from consistently advertising for at least three editions (covering six months). Repetition and frequency are the key for you to see a return on your investment. On average, potential customers need to be exposed to your advertisement three or more times before they will trust and commit to contacting you to purchase your service or product. One-off adverts will not usually grow your brand or increase your sales.

I don’t have my own artwork, what can I do?

Don’t worry, we can help. We have our own professional design service, and we can create bespoke, eye-catching advertisements from £20 + VAT which you can also use on your social media platforms for consistency. If you want to make changes to your advert each edition, it’s no problem!

I’ve never advertised before, what happens if I don’t receive any response?

Advertising doesn’t usually work instantly, it will require some patience. On average, your potential customers need to be exposed to your advertisement three or more times before they will trust and commit to purchasing your product or service.

Our regular customers realise that advertising consistently over three or more editions, gives the best results. If you don’t have the budget, it could mean booking a smaller advert, so you can remain in the magazine for a longer period, or you can use a mixture of advert sizes over the duration of your booking.

In the world of advertising, frequency (not size) is the key to success. All good things come to those who wait, and advertising is no different. We cannot stress this enough. This is why we have a special offer for longer-term bookings – book any size advert for at least 6 months (three editions) and we will give you a free quarter page write-up to sit near your advert for the first edition (which covers two months). It’s a great way to introduce you and your business to our readers.

I’ve seen these magazines before - aren’t they just full of adverts?

We pride ourselves on having a good balance of content and advertising. Every edition of The Village Emporium has a good selection of regular articles, recipes, competitions, puzzles and community updates, to ensure our readers keep the magazine handy until the next one arrives.

Surely social media is the best place to advertise these days?

Not necessarily! Social media and digital advertising can be very expensive when used consistently, and your advert can get lost in the crowd and the noise of online advertising – you can find that you’re one amongst many. Choosing the best format for your brand or business depends on what you need from your marketing. For some, social media and Google ads are the best platform to use for instant responses and results, while other companies may find more value in printed advertisements.

The benefit of using print as an advertising medium is that it is a tangible and emotive experience for consumers. There are not many magazines and newspapers that consistently go through the door these days – but we are here to stay! We have been established since 2005, householders love and trust our magazines, and they trust the advertisers that they see in the magazines, particularly if the advert is consistent, which is great news for you! 80% of customers have been regular advertisers for over 5 years!

Studies have shown that a large proportion of social media users are a younger audience, which means your reach may be limited to a particular age group if you only use digital and social media advertising. One of the key benefits of print is its ability to reach a much wider demographic as there will often be a mixture of ages in any one household, let alone in any one street! Many consumers find that a mixture of print and digital can give the best results, as you will be covering all angles, and householders tend to keep printed established local magazines that they trust, to refer back to.

If your budget allows, combining both print and digital strategies can boost your reach and drive more traffic to your website. Print and online marketing can complement each other and work hand in hand.
